Hi 👋🏾
As I mentioned last week I'm delving deeper into my favorite things. When I
initially started my house hunting journey 10 years ago (it was a journey) I
was more focused on owning something not esthetics.
I grew up in a co-op and a semi-detached house and as an adult I lived in an
apartment building. I was open to everything so it didn't matter what it was I
just didn't want to rent anymore.
As time passed I got married and had kids and that home vision changed.
My ex loved porches.
He's from the south where that porch love is real. I'm a city girl. I didn't
grow up with a porch. I had a stoop.
In the beginning it didn't matter that much to me if my home had a porch. But
as we started looking at homes I always picked ones with porches for him. Over
time his love of porches rubbed off on me. But I still was fine if my house
didn't have a porch.
Then COVID hit and the importance of being able to let my kids play outside
made porches and yards more a necessity than a luxury.
Fast forward and my home has a porch and it's my daughter and I's favorite
place. We have a wicker couch and chairs out there and we love to sit outside
on that couch and watch the blue jays and cardinals fly by while playing iSpy.
It's cool, it peaceful and it's something I didn't know I needed. When I get
overwhelmed I just go outside and sit on the porch and breathe. I drink a cup
of coffee and breathe. I read a book and breathe. 🧘♀️
There is still more I want to do design wise but for now my wicker couch, blue
chairs are silver table are perfect.
Is there a part of your home that is a sanctuary for you?
